Ruckus continues in both Houses a day after PM Modi's fiery speech in Rajya Sabha

The debate on the motion of thanks on the President's address is set to resume in both Houses, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to the discussion in Rajya Sabha. In his address, the Prime Minister said it would be a big mistake to expect 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' from the Congress, as the Congress' priority is "family first".

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said the Centre is in talks with the US government to ensure that those deported are not ill-treated. "It is the responsibility of all countries to take back their citizens living illegally abroad," the External Affairs Minister said.

On Wednesday, a United States military aircraft carrying 104 deported Indian nationals from Haryana, Gujarat, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra landed in Amritsar. The deportations come amid the US's increased immigration enforcement measures, which primarily target individuals who enter the country illegally or overstay their visas.

Opposition MPs on Friday protested in the Parliament premises against the continued arrest of Indian fishermen by Sri Lanka and demanded the government to find a permanent solution to the issue.

The protesting MPs held placards with slogans such as "Justice for Tamil fishermen", "Bring back our fishermen", "No more arrests" and "Tamil Nadu fishermen are Indians".

Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the House, the Odisha MP said the rise in junk food consumption could be linked to the rise in non-communicable diseases in India. "There has been an alarming rise in the consumption of junk food, which is high in salt, sugar, unhealthy fats but has minimal nutrition," Kumar said.

Justice Vikas Mahajan heard arguments by the Baramulla MP and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) counsel and said, "The judgment is reserved." The counsel appearing for the NIA opposed the grant of custody parole, saying Rashid has no inherent right to be present in Parliament.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived in the Lok Sabha soon after opposition MPs raised questions over her absence during the Budget session in Parliament. After the Question Hour ended, the Speaker adjourned the Rajya Sabha till 2 pm.
