Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal has accused the BJP of trying to lure his party candidates ahead of the counting of votes in Delhi tomorrow. Hitting back, the BJP has threatened legal action if the AAP does not withdraw its allegations.

Kejriwal has claimed that 16 AAP candidates received calls yesterday with an offer of Rs 15 crore to switch sides.

"In the last two hours, 16 of our candidates have received calls that if they quit the AAP and join his party, he will make them ministers and give each of them Rs 15 crore," Mr Kejriwal said in an online post.

Mr Kejriwal said some exit polls have predicted the BJP winning more than 55 seats. He wondered why he had to lure rival candidates.

"These fake surveys are only aimed at pressurising some candidates. But not even one of our men is going to bow down," Kejriwal said. Delhi minister Mukesh Ahlawat, who is the AAP candidate from Sultanpur Mazra, reiterated the party chief's claims and said he too had received an offer to switch sides.

"I got a call from this number. I was told that their government is being formed and if I leave AAP and join them they will make me a minister and give me Rs 15 crore. But because of the respect Mr Kejriwal and AAP have given me, I will not leave my party till my death."

Rejecting the allegations, BJP Delhi chief Virendra Sachdeva said AAP's claims were a result of their "desperation" as they neared electoral defeat. "Sanjay Singh should either withdraw his allegations and apologise or face legal action," Mr Sachdeva said.

Delhi voted on February 5 to elect its next government and the counting of votes will take place tomorrow. Most exit polls have shown the BJP headed for victory, but a health warning: exit polls often prove wrong.

The BJP leader also told Mr Singh not to forget that Mr Kejriwal is already facing a defamation case.
